Scientists to grow human organs for transplant inside pigs

US Scientists are trying to grow human organs inside pigs in an attempt to tackle a shortage of donors have successfully created part-human, part-pig embryos. There are still major obstacles to replacing human organs with those of another species. "The immune response, or the rejection of a pig organ, is much stronger than the rejection of a human organ," says Julia Greenstein, president of Immerge Biotherapeutics in Boston. But researchers say they are solving that problem by genetically modifying pigs, which they plan to clone. And they are experimenting with pig cells that could help prevent the human immune system from rejecting the new organ.

Nepalese porters in action

Mountain porters in Nepal are some of the strongest men and women on earth. These rugged people carry loads for the trekking and expedition industry, working for only a few dollars a day. Porters can be seen carrying loads of over 60kgs at altitudes exceeding 5,000 Meters. This is often done in cotton jackets and sandals. Porters are typically lowland farmers who migrate to the popular trekking routes in search of work. The money they earn while trekking is essential to the cash-starved local economies of rural Nepal. Nepal's trekking industry, in the meantime, faces a critical situation because of the ongoing internal conflict between the Government and Maoist insurgents. The industry’s difficulties are now being exacerbated by the power game between the King and the political parties. The problems faced by the trekking industry flow on to Nepal’s porters and guides, who have greatly decreased opportunities for work, Porters and guides are struggling for survival of themselves and their families. This only adds to the long term problems with which porters are faced on a daily basis: lack of recognition of basic human rights including education, safe working environments, basic health care, living wages and, perhaps simplest but most fundamental of all, a widely observed load limit.

United States President Barack Obama to visit Nepal

United States President Barack Obama to visit Nepal through US ambassador to Nepal Peter W. Bodde in December. Obama did pay a visit to India later in January but could not make it to Nepal. As per a very reliable source, the US president will be visiting the Himalayan nation in April on a three days trip. He will arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport in the evening of 31st April. But he has two demands with Nepal and if they are not fulfilled, the trip might get cancelled. Talking exclusively with NeoStuffs about his demands, Obama said, “I am a huge fan of Rajesh Dai and would like to take a photograph with him. Secondly, I would like to be interviewed by the legendary journalist Rishi Dhamala. I would have to cancel my visit sadly if these two of my wishes are not fulfilled.” So the big question now is, will Nepal be able to fulfill Obama’s wishes?
